Toddler dies in three-story fall in Frankford

An unsupervised toddler fell to his death from a third-story window in Frankford on Sunday.

Police responding to a 911 call at about 6 p.m. found the 3-year-old victim in an alley next to an apartment building on the 1600 block of Foulkrod St. The boy was unconscious with severe head trauma, a fractured pelvis and several broken ribs. He was taken to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in critical condition and died there shortly after 9 p.m.

A 32-year-old woman described as the boy’s caretaker told police that she had left the toddler in a third-floor apartment with her 4-year-old daughter while she went to a neighboring apartment to prepare dinner. A short time later, the girl alerted the woman that the boy had fallen from the window. The woman returned to the first apartment and saw the injured boy on the ground some 30 feet below the window.

No criminal charges have been filed in the case. ••
